Putting ‘work’ in clinical conversations: Expanding the biopsychosocial approach

This session is aimed at clinicians wanting to carry out CPD and to expand their understanding of the biopsychosocial model with the addition of work.  It is an interactive session where discussion and reflection will be encouraged and a chance to practice skills learned.

 

 

Session content:

  • To revisit the factors within the biopsychosocial model
  • To explain the importance of work as part of the recovery and rehabilitation process
  • To understand that work is a clinical outcome and identify how to measure work as a PROM.
  • To discuss a revised model with work within in it (BOPS)
  • To upskill clinicians to use the model and include work within clinical conversations: assessments, reviews and follow ups

Emotions: The elephant in the clinical room

This session is aimed at clinicians wanting to build their confidence in asking questions around emotions, mood and mental ill health.  All too often this is an under explored factor within the biopsychosocial model, yet it is pivotal to enabling recovery and helping someone to adapt to their illness.  It is an interactive session where discussion and reflection will be encouraged and a chance to practice skills learned.

 

 

Session content:

  • To revisit the factors within the biopsychosocial model
  • To explain the importance of emotional experience as part of the recovery and rehabilitation process
  • To differentiate emotions, stress and mental ill health
  • To understand the cognitive behavioural approach and how it differs from Cognitive behaviorual therapy
  • To explore fears and concerns about talking about emotions within a clinical assessment and follow up sessions.
  • To build confidence through practical exercises during the session
